Principles of Operation Constant Flow Air-Line Respirators are designed to maintain a slight positive pressure of air inside the facepiece whether the wearer is inhaling or exhaling. This helps prevent contaminants from seeping in around the facepiece, even if there should be small breaks in the face-to-facepiece seal.Approvals & Standards The MSA Constant Flow Air-line Respirators have received National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) certification for use in atmospheres not immediately dangerous to life and health. The approval requires use of the proper length of air-supply hose and the proper air source. Units having an inlet pressure range of 10-15 psig are covered by Approval TC-19C-113 when used with 8-50 feet of MSA Air-Supply Hose; units having an inlet pressure range of 35-40 psig are covered by Approval TC-19C-78 when used with 8-300 feet of MSA Air-Supply Hose. The respirator requires a source of compressed air conforming to at least Grade D Compressed Gas Association, Inc., Commodity Specification for Air, G-7.1. When connected to an appropriate air supply, the respirator delivers a continous supply of breathable air and simultaneously provides a cooling effect. NOTE: Not immediately dangerous to life or health is defined in 42 CFR Part 84 as any hazardous atmosphere which may produce physical discomfort immediately, chronic poisoning after repeated exposure, or acute adverse physiological symptoms after prolonged exposure.
